Screen devices rule the U.S. households, and T.V. is the tech product king.
A recent study from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) recently announced that TVs are in 96% of all U.S. homes, despite traditional viewing is declining.
Smartphones are the next must-have tech device at home for the U.S. population, as it accounts of an 87% of penetration among U.S. households after an unstoppable charge in recent years.
50.8% of U.S. households now only use cell-phones, abandoning landlines to adopt smartphones as their choice of communication. CTA also notes the possibility of smartphone ownership matching TV ownership in the next 5 years.
The battle of smaller screens
Back in 2010, there was a ferocious battle for the top position in the smartphone market, but now, Android and iOS accounted for 99.9% of global smartphone sales to end users during 2017, and competition does not look like it can fight back in 2019 or soon.
Across the entire world, smartphone users are expected to grow by one billion in a time span of five years, which means there will be 2.7 billion smartphone users by 2019.
Samsung and Apple are the leading smartphone vendors, with about 18% of the market share each. And it seems the future will still belong to them.
Laptops, on the other hand, registered its highest levels of penetration ever with 72% of U.S. households owning one. These facts mark what could be understood as the reign of “the three screens”, where TVs, smartphones and notebook computers now dominate the kinds of tech devices Americans have in their home and consider essential.
Smart speakers, wireless earbuds and drones are the emerging technologies of the market, as they have also experience a boost of their presence inside U.S. households.
Speakers including the Amazon Echo and Google Home have become one of the fastest-adopted technologies since tablets, as these technologies have nearly tripled in ownership rate to reach 22% in U.S. households.
Smartwatch adoption also grew, achieving that 18% of U.S. households now own at least one smartwatch – a 6% increase regarding last year.
