Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO, wants to show you how to build resilience in the face of adversity.
Adversity is a guarantee in life, however, no matter how hard this battle can be, adversity is capable of becoming a true forger of character, principals and resilience.
In “Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy”, a New York Times best-selling book, Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, and Adam Grant, Wharton psychologist, study and share the insights on building resilience in the face of the numerous setbacks life has prepared for you.
Through Linkedin, the pair offers a crash course where they show off all their research and real-life insight into how to persevere and overcome the most difficult moments in life. In nine videos of around two to three minutes each, Sandberg and Grant speak on reflecting on past decisions and questioning how to make future decisions when your “option A” is no longer available.
By showcasing practical steps that can help the reader get over the loss of a loved one, raise resilient kids, value the importance of gratitude and master the skill set that is building resilience in the face of obstacles, the video series become a more-than-useful tool of self-care.
Try to make something good come from adversity
Sheryl Sandberg lost her husband unexpectedly during a vacation together in 2015.
She turned that terrible experience into her book, which reaches out to you and serves as a functional guide to healing our hearts and finding out that resilience is not something you have, but something you build.
Sandberg recalls her dark time calling Dr. Grant and asking him “’How much resilience do I have? How do I figure it out? How much do my kids have?'”, to which she later found out she was asking the wrong question, as she should have questioned: “’How do I build resilience?'”
As humans, there is always a way to be better and go beyond our losses and pain. Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant help you fight the idea that the hurt you’re feeling is permanent, and teach you how to give yourself permission to experience happiness again, because it´s fair and possible.
