7-Eleven has hit a major growth milestone – topping 70,000 stores.

Customers can now visit 7-Eleven in 17 countries and regions around the globe after the company announced a milestone of 70,000 stores, including 11,800 in North America, becoming the world’s largest convenience retailer.

“Over 93 years we’ve grown from a small local ice house in Oak Cliff, Texas to a global and iconic brand that is 70,000 stores strong (…) “That strength is due to a relentless focus on meeting the needs of our customers. We’ll continue to place our customers at the forefront of all we do,” said Joseph De Pinto, President and CEO of 7-Eleven, Inc.

After a great 2019, when a new store opened every 3.5 hours, 7-Eleven is ready to enter its 18th global market and open its first store in India later this year. In September of last year, it also opened its first location inside a mall in Brandon, Fla. The Westfield Brandon c-store is the first of seven locations 7-Eleven plans to open in malls this year, according to ABC Action News.

7-Eleven is a Dallas-born company in 1927, it was originally named Tote’m Stores between 1928 and 1946 and opened when an employee of The Southland Ice Company (now 7-Eleven, Inc.) began selling bread, milk and eggs from an ice dock after local grocery stores were closed, according to PR Newswire.
